Is 1500W inverter enough? ›

1500W inverters can easily run a 200W laptop, a 15W cell phone, an 800W ceiling fan, and a 600-watt refrigerator.

1500 watt power inverter can run a heap of around 1200 watts without an issue. For example, it can run your 100W PC, 20W cellphone, 100W roof fans, a few 100W lights, 800w refrigerator, and 40W TV. In such a case, a 1500 watt model will be appropriate than at any other time.

Note: this estimate can vary depending upon your specific vehicle battery and its current condition. Generally, you should not use an inverter larger than 400 watts with a car or truck starter battery.

Most fridges can run from 230V with a stand consumption of around 30W. In our experience, most fridges will have have a compressors element. This means that they will be need a power inverter of at least 1500W in order to run successfully. This is due to the start-up draw caused from the compressor element.

OEM installed microwaves are usually smaller and use less power than their homeward-bound counterparts. Our experts recommend a 1500-watt pure since-wave inverter if you are planning to use the one that came in your RV, and a 2000–watt pure since wave inverter to run a conventional countertop microwave.

How much current does a 1500 watt inverter draw from a battery? It depends on the voltage. For 12 v, about 12.5 amps. For 13.8 v about 10.9 amps.

You can easily estimate the size inverter you'll need by adding up the largest number of watts you'll be using at a given time and adding 20%. For example, let's say you need 1,500 watts to run your computer and microwave at the same time. Take 1,500 + 300 (which is 20% of 1,500) = 1,800 watts.

In order to size a battery bank, we take the hours needed to continuously run your inverter and multiply them by the number of watts the inverter is designed for. This equals the total watt that your inverter will pull over the time period.

If you were wanting to run a 1000W microwave, it's recommended to give yourself a bit of security by choosing a 1500W or even 2000W inverter instead. This allows for the microwave to comfortably output 1000W while running without fear of overloading or damaging the inverter.

Battery health: Aging batteries will reduce their capacity. Temperature: Low temperatures reduce the effective capacity of the battery.

Traditionally you start from the other end of the puzzle, and work backwards. So you work out what is the biggest thing you want to run (lets say it is a 1,200w hair dryer), so this then dictates the size of the inverter you would use (in this example you would need at least 1,500W).

Sum the wattages of your appliances, add a 20-25% safety margin, and choose an inverter with at least this capacity. A 3000-5000 watt inverter is usually sufficient for an average household.

Notes on wattage rating vs load:

So a 1500 watt inverter with a 500 watt load would be 50 (25) Amps, not 150 (75) Amps. The same inverter with a 1200 Watt load would draw 120 (60) Amps, which would be the same amount as a 1200 Watt inverter at load capacity.

The perfect number of solar panels for a 1500 watt system is usually 6 to 8 panels. This depends on each panel's wattage. To find the right number, think about how much energy you use monthly. Also, look at how much sun your roof gets, its type, and your budget.
